Jen Matera MA, RN, BSN, CLD, CD
Hello everyone! My name is Jen Matera. I became a doula in 2003 after the birth of my first daughter. I carry certifications as a labor and birth doula
through Childbirth International and CAPPA. In 2004, I began working as a doula at Lutheran Medical Center and remained there until January 2008 when the doula program was terminated. I currently teach in the Family Education department at Lutheran. Cocoon Enterprises, Inc. began as Birth Paths Childbirth Services back in 2003. It quickly grew from my own private birth doula service to a company providing full spectrum doula and family education programs to families all over the Denver area. Fortunately I was able to form a lasting partnership with Heather Scott and as a result Cocoon has received over $30,000 in grant funding over the past 4 years to serve mothers in need in the mountain communities of Denver. I serve on the board of the Colorado Doulas Association and volunteer on the Clear Creek County low birth weight task force. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and am a firm believer that education is the way to empowerment for birthing families. I recently graduated from the Regis University accelerated nursing program with a BSN and plan to go on to receive my CNM in the future. I currently live in the mountain community of Idaho Springs with my husband, beautiful two and five year old daughters, and two crazy dogs.

Heather Scott, CLD, CCCE
Greetings! My name is Heather Scott. Over the past 10 years I have walked out my journey of giving birth and parenting four lively children. Through my personal experiences, a calling awakened within me as I realized my passion for birth and began looking for ways to work hands-on with women and their families during the childbearing year. As a casual "hobby" I was sharing my experiential knowledge with friends in my community and was invited along to births. I quickly began to find my way as both a childbirth educator and labor doula. I completed my training and certification through CAPPA in 2003 and 2004 respectively. I became a member of the Colorado Doulas Association in 2004 and currently serve as a board member assisting in the mentoring program. During this same timeframe I met Jen Matera and partnered with her to work in a grant funded program offering childbirth classes and doula services for families in Clear Creek County. Out of this opportunity Cocoon Enterprises formed and we have been blessed to see an expansion that serves families in Clear Creek, Summit, Grand, Gilpin, Jeffco and Park counties along with Mountain Midwifery families. Currently, I work at Mountain Midwifery assisting with the various duties to help run the office along with teaching childbirth education classes and offering doula services. I am also taking steps to pursue my long-held goal of midwifery, and with four home-schooled kids by my side this has been a baby step process!

Becky Potter, CD(DONA), CBE
When people ask me why I choose doula
work, I answer that it my absolute privilege to stand at the
intersection of science and miracle, supporting families as they give
birth. While my passion is long-standing, my formal training as a
birth professional began in 2007 with my DONA birth doula training,
followed by my study as a childbirth educator with Childbirth
International in 2008. I have had the honor of working with the
wonderful women of Cocoon Enterprises during my first year of practice,
benefiting from their wisdom as I continue to develop professional
confidence, respect, and knowledge. In additon to serving families as
a birth doula and edcuator, I also work at Mountain Midwifery,
supporting the operation of Colorado's only birth center. I live in
Evergreen with my husband, two daughters, and two dogs. We are
preparing to welcome another baby to our family this spring.

Nora Murrell
Hello! My name is Nora Murrell. I started this journey as a Middle School Science teacher in Kansas City Missouri. My experience as a teacher ingrained in me the belief that parent and family support should begin well before kindergarten, and that it should begin with birth. After moving to Colorado in the summer of 2007 to get married, I decided to change the mode in which I support parents and their children. After beginning my Labor Doula training with CAPPA, I quickly expanded into their Lactation Education and Childbirth Education programs. In an effort to be able to offer comprehensive support, I became a member of La Leche League, and I have completed both the Advanced Practice Birth Support for the Birth Center and the Birthing From Within Childbirth Educator and Doula Training. Because of my education background, I firmly believe in classes that are interactive, varied, hands-on, and memorable. As a labor doula, I believe that hospital births, home births, and birth center births each have a place within the realm of childbirth; and that it is up to the mother and family as to what is right for them and what will have the best support for them. I support women of all backgrounds and ages. I support without judgment and with a careful ear that gives me the compassion, understanding, and awareness that a doula needs. I currently live in Littleton with my husband and three ferrets.
