Cocoon Enterprises, Inc.
Empowered Birth for All
Birth Center Doula  and Headed Home Programs

Cocoon Enterprises is pleased to provide private and on call doula services for the Mou
ntain Midwifery freestanding Birth Center in Englewood, CO.

In order to continue to provide the utmost continuity of care for your upcoming birth Cocoon Enterprises and Mountain Midwifery have created a doula program with differing options to suit each client's needs. Click here to meet the MMC Doulas.

Why is a doula necessary at the birth center?

The role of a doula is different than that of the midwife.  Your midwife is there to ensure the safety of mother and baby.  The doula is there to provide continual hands-on and verbal support and comfort to both the mother and her partner.

What options are available for doula support?

Cocoon Enterprises works with a group of qualified doulas who have attended and completed our Advanced Doula Training.  While our group is composed of doulas with varying experience levels each is able to provide the utmost care for your birth.  There are several options available:

Private Doula Support

If you decide during your pregnancy that you would like to have a doula present you may contact us and we will provide you with a list of names of doulas who are available for your due date.  You can meet with the doulas privately to “interview” and find an appropriate match.  Your doula will meet with you at least twice before going into labor to spend time getting to know you and your partner and learn about your vision for your birth.  She will be an additional resource for you during your pregnancy.  When in labor your doula will join you and stay up until 2 hours postpartum.  She will also schedule a postpartum visit with you.  The cost for this option ranges depending upon the doula's experience.  The median cost for an experienced doula in Colorado is currently $700.  Our doulas' prices range from $275-$775.

Advanced Practice Birth Support Doula-In-Training Low-Cost Program

Doulas who attend our Advanced Practice Birth Support program are required to attend one birth at Mountain Midwifery Center as part of their training. This is a low-cost option for families wishing to access doula support. Please contact Heather for further details.

On-Call Doula Support

Sometimes birth does not always play out as planned ahead of time.  At the birth center this can translate into risking out before going into labor or an unplanned transfer to the hospital during labor as well as the need for additional support at home during a long labor.  In order to provide you with complete continuity of care, an on-call doula program has been created to serve a family’s needs.  The cost for this option is $75 - $375 depending on the amount of time the doula spends with you during labor and postpartum. The initial $75 fee is due at the time of registration and payable to Cocoon Enterprises, Inc. If a doula joins you in labor, the additional cost is as follows:
1-4 hours  $75
5 hours     $100
6 hours     $125
7 hours     $150
8 hours     $175
9 hours     $225
10 hours   $275
11 hours    $325
12+ hours $375
This portion of the fee is payable directly to your doula. While this may seem like an unplanned cost keep in mind that you will be receiving a refund from Mountain Midwifery and can use this to help pay for your doula support.
If a doula is called in for you and you have not registered ahead of time the initial $75 payment can be made at your one week postpartum visit to the birth center.

Headed Home Program

Cocoon Enterprises and Mountain Midwifery are proud to launch this new program, which helps to bridge the gap between your amazing birth at MMC and your first hours at home with your new baby.

A specially trained doula will meet you at the Birth Center following your birth and accompany you home. The doula will take care of the details while you enjoy your first precious moments of bonding at home as a new family.

The doula can assist with breastfeeding and help ensure that mother and baby remain the picture of postpartum health. She will also prepare a first meal for the family, help with any pressing chores or errands at home, assist with sibling adaptation, and simply create a nurturing and peaceful space for the new family.

The cost of the Headed Home Program is $235 with pre-registration and $285 without pre-registration.
