Empowered Birth for All
MEET THE DOULAS
All of our doulas have completed the Advanced Practice Birth Support for the Birth Center training program, a 20 hour enrichment program designed for trained doulas to enhance their expertise in providing skilled support to Mountain Midwifery families. Each doula has also completed a training with a reputable doula certification agency.

Doulas have varying areas of specialty and expertise. We recommend interviewing several doulas and finding the support person who is right for you! Clicking on each doula's name will link you to their personal website.

Doulas are subcontractors and set their own prices. Please contact us to be connected with doulas who are available for your dates and have the experience and background you desire.

Jenn Amann

My passion for pregnancy and birth developed in 2007 and lead me to become a certified birth doula in 2009.  I believe that every woman’s path to the birth of her children is different and that her personal experiences are what shape her birth process.  I am incredibly honored to have the opportunity to support women during one of life’s most precious times. My goal as a doula is to provide emotional, mental and physical support throughout the pregnancy and birth as well as to help ensure that the couple is comfortable and receives the personal experience they desire.

Corrie Burr
I believe birth is a natural process for a woman's body and that medical intervention can be necessary but isn't mandatory. All women have the power to birth and should be able to enter into birth without apprehension or fear. It is my aspiration to educate women on options, potential situations, alternatives and birth resources, and then to provide full support through the journey of birth as a doula.

Ellen Contard, CD(DONA)

My experiences as a mother, doula, childbirth educator, and La Leche League Leader have given me a profound respect for birth and growing families. I provide a base of broad experience and unconditional support for mothers and their love
d ones who are sharing this journey. The services I provide are slightly different for every family because they are tailored to your individual needs, but my goals for healthy mothers, babies and families are constant. It is a joy an honor to serve mothers and families as they welcome new life into the world.

Jessica Crump

Just as each birth is unique, so is every doula.  I approach my role as a supplement to a laboring woman’s partner and family.  I help to provide educational resources, nurturing care, and tools to help facilitate positive communication between you and your care givers, as well as offering emotional and physical support during your labor and birth. I bring my passion for serving families to every aspect of your care and a calm, grounding presence to your birth environment. Whether or not this is your first child, each birth has its own course and I would be privileged to be a part of your birth support team.

Kirsten Dehmlow, CLD, CCCE

My passion for birth came from the birth's of my own children. I believe that birth is natural, normal, and life changing. My desire is to provide you with the knowledge of how capable you are and the choices you have regarding the birth of your baby. It is a precious event that you will always remember. I am blessed to be able to support families during their inspired beginning!

Aubrey Friedly

I have been a labor doula since November 2008 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I have my bachelor's degree in Women's Studies and am currently on my way to graduate school to become a midwife. I believe birth to be an intimate experience shared between the Mother and Father. Giving birth to a baby is so much more than just a physical motion; it engages the couple in a transformational experience. It is a key life event that is full of meaning and emotion. As a labor doula, I am dedicated to providing the best experience possible for mothers and their families during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Kari Gallinger
I am an experienced birth
doula, wife and mother of four boys. Over the past several years it has been an honor to support pregnant women and their partners as they navigate pregnancy and birth. It was not long after my own birth experiences that I began working with birthing women in addition to offering in-home postpartum support for families in Iowa and then Colorado. As much as I make myself available for the mother, I also ensure that the father is feeling equally supported. Through providing hands-on, informational and emotional support I hope to create a safe space for women to labor, couples to bond and families to be born.

Amanda Glenn, MA, CPD-T, CLD, LE(CAPPA)
Amanda has been providing labor and postpartum doula services as well as in-home breastfeeding education and support since 2004. Amanda is also a parent educator providing developmental and behavioral consulting from birth through 3 years. "The journey into parenthood is one of powerful growth and bonding. I honor and support each family's individual birth & parenting goals by providing compassionate support, active listening and educational resources which empower families and relieve stress during childbirth, the postpartum period and the many years of parenthood to come."

Carrie Hankins, CD(DONA)
As an experienced birth doula and mentor, I am always awed and inspired by the women I serve. I believe in the power of women to birt
h their babies safely and with love! I know that every woman is strong, powerful and instinctively capable of having a positive birth experience. I also know that birth is hard work, and we as women deserve continuous support and respect for our individual needs and desires. I am honored to share the power and joy of birth while supporting women and their families on this life changing journey.

Melissa Kleinman, CD(DONA)
As a DONA certified doula and mother of two beautiful girls, I have always had a passion for babies and childbirth. Always supporting friends and families during their pregnancies and births, I believe that all women have the right to unconditional support for their birth experience. I was so happy a few years ago when I realized I could support women for a living! Empowering women and families with education and information is important, as it allows them to make a decision based on facts not fear. I support women with their choices for birth, pain control, privacy, and anything else they may need. I have attended a variety of births using natural pain control, labors needing medication, hypnobirthing, waterbirth and cesarean birth. All births are beautiful and all families deserve support!

Heather McInally, CLD
Heather is passionate about bringing babies into this world as gently as possible and understands that this experience forever changes a woman, and shapes the baby's life.  That is why she loves supporting mothers and their partners at MMC!  Heather is the mommy of two little girls and originally from the Midwest.  After using the HypnoBirthing technique with her second baby in 2006, she became passionate about this method and the importance of helping women ENJOY their birth day.  She is very experienced in supporting families using the HypnoBirthing and Hypnobabies techniques, and has held over 50 women as they brought their angels into this world.

Whitney Nichols-Dewey, CD(DONA)
I help to empower the mother/family to have the birth experience they desire. I believe in empowering families to make choices from a place of education and strength rather than fear. I believe in women's bodies and their ability to have joyful births. I provide support, comfort and education during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  What this means to each family varies, some need more meetings before birth, others after. All pre- and post-natal appointments are included and my fee remains the same regardless of how long labor lasts.

Gina Penka, CD(DONA)

I have been a doula since my nephew’s birth in May of 2001, and I have been to all kinds of births!  I especially love working with MMC clients.  I specialize in working together with a woman and her partner to help ease the transition into parenthood – both the birth itself and also the self-image and role changes.  I have three wonderful children and I am studying to be a midwife.  In addition to birth support, I also provide in-home lactation support and help with babywearing. I am also a Birthing From Within Mentor.

I have a passion for birth passed on from my great-grandmother who was a midwife in the early 1900's.  I believe women have the right to choose how and where to birth their children and whom to have present.  I believe through education of the birth process, information about what to expect of your body and emotions and continuing support, you can have your best possible birth.  My goal as a doula is to provide women and their partners with emotional and physical encouragement and comfort during labor and birth.  I will offer guidance, reassurance and information where I am qualified.

Jessica Potter
I live in Aurora, CO with my husband and
two children, and was a Mountain Midwifery mom for both. I view birth as a truly amazing event, one that not only brings a baby into the world, but a new family as well. It is my aim to help moms-to-be start the journey by having the birth experience that they desire, be it in a home, birthing center, or hospital. My goal is to equip each mom I serve with physical, informational, and emotional support as she looks forward to the birth of her baby, and be a comforter and encourager to her and her partner during the labor process.

Christina Rochette, CLD, CCCE
I offer childbirth education and doula services for the Front Range, from Canon City and Pueblo to Colorado Springs, South Denver, and beyond. I have specialized training in breastfeeding and birth center support, and experience with home birth and hospital birth, including VBAC and vaginal breech. I believe the vast majority of women can birth their children naturally and all deserve support in any scenario.

Amy Swagman, CLD, LLLL
I am the mother of two (soon to be three) girls, the second of which was born at the birth center!  I have have personal and professional experience with birth in a variety of settings including hospital, birth center, and home. I have a passion for sibling support since my older daughter was present at her sister's birth.  I believe that women have the knowledge within themselves to birth on their own strength and that birth is a normal, natural event.  When I support families in labor I am as flexible and unobtrusive as possible, stepping in wherever and however I am needed.  I also do henna belly art, birth photography, breastfeeding support, and babywearing consultations.

Heather Thompson, PhD, CPD, LE (CAPPA)

I believe all new families possess a natural rhythm and inner wisdom that can make the process of bringing home a new baby less stressful and more fun.  As a postpartum doula, I provide compassionate support and education to help new families follow their own unique style in the early postpartum period.  My background in physiology and nutrition as well as the birth and parenting experiences of my own two children continually shape my understanding of how to best assist others with their own parenting challenges.  I am particularly passionate about helping parents achieve their own balance between work and parenthood.
