Empowered Birth for All
Doula Services
Labor and Birth Doulas are highly trained in the psychology and physiology of birth.  Your doctor or midwife is responsible for the medical aspects of your baby's birth.  The Labor and Birth Doula's complete focus is on you and your birth experience.  She will remain by your side through the entire birth experience, maintaining a continuity of care that is seldom achieved otherwise.

Labor and Birth Doulas offer informational support by assisting the family in obtaining information and asking questions necessary to make important decisions.  They provide physical support in the way of positioning, breathing and relaxation techniques, massage, aromatherapy, and other methods of pain management during labor.  Labor and Birth Doulas provide support to partners of birthing mothers by suggesting ways they can help the mother, allowing them to take a break when needed, and making certain they care for themselves as well as the mother. Doulas never replace family members or other support persons; they only enhance and complement the roles of others important to the birth experience.

Having a doula attend your birth can greatly enhance your experience. Research has shown that the presence of a doula during labor can result in a:
  • 50% decrease in cesarean section
  • 25% decrease in length of labor
  • 30% decrease in assisted delivery (use of forceps)
  • 40% decrease in the use of synthetic oxytocin to augment labor
  • 60% decrease in epidural use
  • 30% decrease in the use of narcotic pain medication*
